Frequently asked questions
Does this count fancy Unicode text differently than plain text?
No — it counts by Unicode code point, the same way most platforms do, so a bold or gothic letter still counts as one character, not two. That said, some platforms count a little differently internally (X/Twitter, for example, weights certain wide characters as 2), so treat the numbers here as a close estimate rather than a guarantee.
Why do some limits seem generous while others are strict?
Each platform sets its own limits for different fields — a bio is almost always shorter than a caption or a full post, and usernames are shorter still. The table above uses each platform's own published or observed limits per field.
