Frequently asked questions
What is this character / symbol?
Paste it above. If it's one of the ~500 symbols in our library, you'll get its name and a link to more like it. Either way, you'll always see its raw Unicode data — the codepoint, decimal value and HTML entity — even for characters we don't have a curated name for yet.
What does U+XXXX mean?
It's the character's Unicode codepoint — a unique hexadecimal ID every character has, regardless of font or platform. It's how software actually identifies a character internally, underneath whatever glyph gets drawn on screen.
Why does it say "not in our symbol library" for some characters?
This tool checks against GlyphDrip's own hand-curated symbol collection (~500 named characters across 40 categories), not the full ~150,000-character Unicode standard. You'll still get the raw codepoint for anything outside that set — just not a friendly name yet.
Does pasting a character send it anywhere?
No — everything runs locally in your browser. Nothing you paste here is sent to a server.
