Frequently asked questions
Why do some heart symbols look different across apps?
Each app renders Unicode using its own font. The character is identical everywhere; only the drawing style changes.
Which heart symbol is best for an Instagram bio?
♥ and ❤ are the safest choices — both are widely supported plain-text characters that show up correctly on essentially every device. Colored hearts like 💜 or 🖤 are technically emoji rather than symbols, so they render as your device's own emoji set rather than a consistent character, which is fine for a bio but worth knowing if you want an identical look everywhere.
Is there a keyboard shortcut to type a heart symbol?
On Windows, Alt+3 on the numeric keypad types ♥ in many apps. On Mac, the Character Viewer (Control+Command+Space) has a Hearts section. Neither is as fast as copying from here, especially on mobile, where numeric alt-codes don't work at all.
