Scary Text Generator

Make your text scary, creepy or spooky with a mix of Zalgo glitch, gothic blackletter, ransom-note and strikethrough Unicode styles — the look people search for as "scary font," "spooky font" or "horror font." Real characters, not an image, so they paste cleanly anywhere.

How it works

Zalgo stacks Unicode combining marks above and below each letter for a corrupted, glitching look — heavier settings read scarier. Fraktur and Bold Fraktur borrow the sharp, old-world blackletter shape typical of horror-movie titles. Ransom note mixes random letter styles for a cut-and-paste, unsettling feel. Runic swaps letters for real Elder Futhark runes for an occult, spellbook look, and Mirror reverses the character order for a backwards-writing effect. All of it is standard Unicode text, so it works anywhere you can type.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same font used in horror movies?

No — real movie titles use licensed typefaces we can't reproduce or claim to be. Bold Fraktur and Ransom Note are the closest available looks here for that same unsettling feel, which is why people reach for them in fan captions, memes and horror-themed posts.

What's the difference between "scary," "spooky" and "creepy" text?

They're the same idea — different words people use to search for the same unsettling text look. This page mixes several styles that fit all three. If you want just the glitchy corrupted look, try the dedicated Zalgo Text Generator; for pure blackletter, see Gothic Text Generator.

Will this work if I paste it into Word, Canva or Google Docs?

Yes — this isn't a font file you install, it's Unicode text you paste straight into any text box, including Word, Canva and Google Docs. No download needed. Very heavy Zalgo can occasionally render oddly in apps with limited font support, so try a lighter intensity if that happens.

Is there a Halloween-specific version?

Yes — see our Halloween Fonts generator for the same styles tuned for Halloween captions, invites and decor text.

Does Mirror actually flip each letter's shape, like a real mirror?

No — it reverses the order of your characters, not the shape of each letter. A true letter-by-letter mirror image doesn't have a reliable Unicode equivalent for most of the alphabet, so this stays honest: reversed order, real characters, no invented glyphs.
